My recent "visit" has left me feeling frustrated and disheartened, as their unprofessionalism and apparent money-driven approach overshadowed any semblance of patient care. For around 2 years, I had been suffering from an unpleasant colon discomfort that was affecting my mental health and social life. Despite undergoing gastro and colonoscopy exams, nothing seemed to be wrong. I had resigned myself to living with this discomfort, but decided to give naturopathy a try as a last resort. Dr. Joseph was professional, kind, patience and really listened to what I was going through. He provided me with the right treatment and it has been incredibly effective. Expérience négative: I write this review acknowledging that there are many positive reviews about Dr Steyr and that his treatment plans have been effective for many people. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I suffer from severe eczema. I worked with dermatologists for years without success. I stopped using topical steroid cream because it was no longer effective and because I was worried about withdrawal effects. I then decided to see a naturopath and booked an appointment with Dr Steyr. In my initial appointment, I was told that it was likely that my skin microbiome was "off", and I was given a treatment plan which included applying an antifungal cream, pure tea tree oil, and polysporin directly on my skin each day. The plan also included using a silver spray on my skin and consuming a liver supplement, both of which I purchased from the clinic. I was told to stick with this plan for one month and that it was likely to fix my problems but just in case, I was encouraged to undergo a blood test for food intolerances. Given that I'm not familiar with blood tests that are not covered by OHIP, I agreed. Upon paying for my appointment, I was shocked to learn that the blood test cost $300. I paid for it anyway, as I felt I had no choice but the lack of transparency about the cost of this test was troubling. This treatment plan also included eliminating moisturizer from my routine. As a person with dark skin colour whose skin requires more hydration, I knew that this was risky but again, decided to stick to the plan. One month later, I had my second appointment. At that time, my skin was starting to look and feel worse but I was told that it might "get worse before it gets better". My blood test showed many intolerances. I was told that I likely have a leaky gut and that this may be causing the eczema. I was then told to continue applying the antifungal cream, tea tree oil, and polysporin topically and no moisturizer, while also taking a small intestine supplement and probiotics from the clinic, in addition to the liver supplement, and to begin a very strict elimination diet for 4 weeks. I was told that the clinic would support me throughout this diet. Unfortunately that did not prove to be true. I was only provided with one recipe book which proposed drinking tea for breakfast, which, for someone with low blood pressure like me, is obviously not realistic. I was very overwhelmed because my particular elimination diet was extremely restrictive and I spent hours researching recipes, because after spending nearly $1,000 in the naturopathic process (appointments, supplements, and blood test), I truly could not afford to also pay to see the recommended nutritionist. Several days after my second appointment, which to be clear was over a month after I began the treatment plan, my skin took a turn for the worst. I suspect the tea tree oil and lack of moisturizer were the primary culprits. I developed giant dark purple patches that stretched all across my legs and arms over the spots of eczema. They burned 24/7 while the eczema itched severely underneath. I could not bend my limbs because the skin was so dry, and I could hardly work or sleep. I was in constant agony and decided to immediately stop using the recommended topical products. I was very close to going to the hospital, but opted to see a pharmacist. Luckily, the pharmacist recommended the Eucerin eczema cream, which brought relief. It has now been 2 weeks since I stopped the topical products that were recommended to me, and I am still doing damage control to heal the wounds caused by the topical products, rather than addressing the actual eczema. The diet has had no benefit. In fact, the eczema itself has begun to spread to new parts of my body, but I am finding relief in moisturizers & acupuncture. I am very disappointed with the lack of transparency (with respect to costs) in this process, but I am mostly disappointed that the treatment plan was so strongly the opposite of what I needed. Getting "worse before it gets better" cannot mean agony to the point of being unable to sleep or work.

Expérience fantastique: Dr. Steyr is the best naturopathic doctor I've ever seen. I have been suffering from eczema since I was little. Due to a trip to Asia, my eczema flared up and I decided to see him. He tried to find out what triggers my eczema flare-ups from different perspectives and gave me guideline for internal and external cares. My eczema has gotten so much better since I started seeing him. He also doesn't try to upsell their products such as supplements, unlike other naturopathic doctors. I can't thank him enough!

He is so well informed and has lots of experience dealing with a multitude of root causes that lead to health problems. Wife found this Greystone Health who says something about your gut so I have group insurance and I was feeling real bad. Made an appointment with Dr. Steyer the truth is it took a little time to take to him he was talking about things I knew nothing about, I went along with him I couldn’t lose much. Mid way he started to make sense I listen very carefully to him. I left him went home and did exactly what he told me. He has always been patient and works with you to create a plan that you can realistically stick to. Although the changes he suggested have seemed minimal, I have seen great changes in my skin over the years, and it has never looked better. For anyone who suffers from eczema, I think the omegas he put me on reaaaally helped but ofcourse I'd suggest getting your own diagnosis. Expérience fantastique: I take many different medications, some to treat a serious and potentially life-threatening chronic illness, mental health, and the medication side effects (insomnia, fatigue). It was almost impossible to figure out what is illness related, lifestyle related, and medication side effects related. When I first walked into his office I wasn’t able to make it an entire day without returning to bed from extreme fatigue by 1 pm. My doctor can only offer so much help with a very narrow pharmaceutical scope. On my own, along with some guidance from my doctor and a lot of support from Dr. Steyr I’ve slowly sorted out a complex in interrelated issues. Each step had been incremental and Dr. Steyr was able to adapt to where I was at and the capacity I had at the time. I couldn’t even cook a decent dinner and resorted to prepared meals for a while My biggest fear initially was that there’d be huge expectations of change that didn’t have the strength to do at the time. He was able to work with me with as much or as little I could give in the moment. My hopefully last layer of work is my antidepressant. I was tired of the side effects. I’d started to taper off 2.5 years ago and stopped because it was so difficult. Now I’ve been off of this drug for over a month and it was the final step to becoming alive again. I am being social again, my activity levels are light years away from the says of having to get back to bed for three hours after lunch. I’m not at the gym four days a week. The process of getting off the antidepressant isn’t an easy with rebound withdrawal. Dr. Steyr was extremely generous with his time as I was in an emotionally vulnerable state looking for a way out that didn’t require me to go back on these drugs. He worked out a plan with multiple natural products that have helped me coped with this transition. It’s taken years to accomplish this, and however difficult it has been it has been one of my best decisions. I am not the same person I am when I first walked in. No longer pale skinned exhausted stoned-looking zombie overwhelmed with just making it through the day. It’s been a tough long haul but I wouldn’t haven’t to been able achieve theses changes without his support and expertise.
