Nautilus Plus Plateau

Negative experience: Call before going there for nothing. Some classes on the schedule are false advertising. I went there for nothing on January 2 and 6. I had even received email confirmations for both yoga classes on Thursday and Monday at noon. Also, be careful to check that you do not lock yourself in the area where the classes are held in the basement. I was stuck for 5 minutes until I luckily ran into the building manager to get me out of there!

Negative experience: Very pushy personal trainers, especially Felix; not well maintained

Positive experience: People that work in this gym deserve 5 stars. They are friendly and supportive. They provide the best service among other gyms in the area. The problem is that the equipment is run down. This gym need new equipment in order to increase its price and attract more customers. The location is also good.

Negative experience: Horrible treatment, I went to ask for information but first I was needing to use the bathroom, the guys on the desk ask me first if I was a member when I said no, they rejected me so obviously after that I don't want to be a member when they don't allow a person to use a bathroom for a basic necessity

Negative experience: For as long as I can remember, this gym didn't have an abductor/adductor machine. They finally got some: two antique pieces from 1969, with absolutely terrible ergonomics and feel. Are you serious?? The highlight of this gym is the grocery store across the street.

Negative experience: I've been holding a membership there since 2020. I was verbally attacked and made fun of by someone waiting to use a machine there, when the gym was almost empty! When I told the clerk and the managers, they just asked one of the guy's friends to tell him to calm down, not taking any action or responsibility themselves or remotely caring. I don't feel like going there and i've been too stressed and scared to go back, fearing the same aggressive person would jump at me for using a machine he wanted to use. From what the receptionists said, it appears this person is usually like this to everyone, and it's not the first instance it happens. they wouldn't cancel my membership or offer me a refund, so I'm forced to pay for it despite not feeling safe to go there. even after all of this, they call me every week to ask me to renew...

Positive experience: Very nice staff. Adequate equipment. Nice location. Only one problem, but a big one: the music is MUCH TOO LOUD! I am now thinking of ending my subscription after 4 years. Too bad.

Fantastic experience: Very nice N+ branch. Small but well arranged, the cardio and abs section is right in front of the windows that overlook Mont-Royal street. The clientele is respectful and unpretentious. The highlight of this branch is its staff, friendly and courteous.

Negative experience: I went there this week for a free trial. Upon arriving, I was made to fill out a form and sat down with one of the employees who asked me a few questions about my goals and workout routine. I explained to him that I have been training for over a year and that I am satisfied with my results, but that I only want to stay in shape. He then started to explain how I was wasting my time with my exercises, that they were useless and that I would never see any progress. All of this while I hadn't asked for his opinion at all, I find that he should have kept his comments to himself. Another example of 'mansplaining' in the field of bodybuilding. I am sure that if I were a man, he wouldn't have said anything negative about my way of training. I will not return. Enough of sexism in 2024...

Positive experience: The equipment is decent. Some of it is old but it's still maintained okay and generally quite clean. The benches are quite close quarters which is a shame at some times of the day, especially if someone is wearing dirty clothes, but it's generally not too bad. It's quite small but in a very densely populated area so when it's packed, it's packed. If it were bigger it'd get another star. Staff is nice.

Negative experience: Clean gym and well located. But the quantity and placement of some equipment needs to be reconsidered; you're always in someone else's way, which is annoying. There's very little space to move around or actually practice in the end. For the price, my experience as a member is currently disappointing. A suggestion box would be welcome.

Positive experience: It is nice gym and is clean. It has plenty of equipments, but sometimes it gets really busy in the evenings. The staff are friendly and helpful. I wish they closed a bit later at night.

Fantastic experience: Nice and clean gym, plenty of equipment!

Negative experience: Really too many people... I had to change my routine twice because the machines were occupied for way too long. Little ethics from the members... a lot of machines still had their weights not removed after use. You can't tell if it's in use or not because there are several members who don't use a towel (universal sign that a machine is occupied). The only time I tried to use a machine without a towel on it, I was approached by someone saying 'uh it's because I'm using the machine'.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful room, convenient near several amenities. Diverse staff and the groups are really great like the Wednesday yoga, wow what a teacher.

Positive experience: Clean room, well equipped and good coaches. It remains expensive both for the subscription and the coaches. There are packages suitable for all types of supervised support by professionals.

Negative experience: All gyms I have been to have offered an option to opt out of a membership by paying a fee. Once you sign, if you don’t go you are stuck with a prison sentence of 1 year at this gym paying 50$ per month. I would not recommend this place either as it has lack of variety in equipment. Good place to get started I guess

Negative experience: The gym is clean, but the cardio equipment is not great. They only have two proper spin bikes and they are very old and poorly maintained. However, they have a number of the larger stationary bikes, but these are not good for proper cardio sessions

Negative experience: I purchased a year-long membership 9 months ago and they won't let me cancel my membership even though I moved out of my flat and I am no longer close to a Nautilus gym. I know have to continue paying for the 3 months left to my membership when they know I can't access the service anymore. This is non-sense and people should be able to cancel their subscription for good reasons with proof. I used to like that gym but the customer service has ruined my experience. i feel robbed as I'm paying for nothing.

Positive experience: Nice enough gym, a bit small and can get crowded. The hours are not great however, closes at 6pm on Saturday??? Who made that decision?

Negative experience: While the staff in the dining area is friendly, I expected better from the after-sales service. Following a fraud on my card, I had to renew my credit card. My payment was refused. Rather than contacting me, I was charged fees. In the meantime, I responded by email and left two messages, no response.

Negative experience: Horrible service and not worth the subscription price. Better to support a local gym than a company that doesn't care about its customers and only thinks about money.

Negative experience: Gym too expensive for the quality. The classes with a teacher are really limited, especially at the Plateau Mont Royal gym. I went there because it was closer to my new condo. But the cheaper competition is by far better! Really disappointed!

Negative experience: I had a negative experience with this club: I moved to Montreal for 1 year in the fall of 2020, and signed up for a 1-year membership at the club. I left Montreal in September 2021, as planned. After leaving Montreal, I discovered that my account has been getting charged by the club. Their argument is that, due to the multiple COVID-related closures of the club, they are authorized to charge me 26 bimonthly payments, despite the fact that the one year calendar period from the onset of my membership has passed. In fact, they are still charging me, and it is now May 2022! The customer service agents at the club have dug in and have expressed zero understanding for my predicament. These are clearly unfair business practices, and I am surprised that they are permitted in Canada.

Negative experience: The lady at the counter, perhaps the manager, is discriminatory. She refuses to welcome you in French because of your skin color or your non-French name, even if you speak French. This behavior helps no one and feeds prejudices and stereotypes.

Negative experience: The machine room is always crwowed and there are only few classes, and are really mediocre. Plus the most experienced staff is not very nice. Summarizing It seems they exclussively look for money.

Negative experience: There's no sauna and not enough squat racks!

Negative experience: It was a terrible experience and a huge headache to deal with. I signed up to get back in shape so I just wanted a regular gym membership to ease back into things. They basically won't let you do this, they push their personal trainers, group classes and nutritionists on you and they don't tell you what's in the fine print. I tried cancelling the training program THE NEXT DAY because I realized I had signed up for something I didn’t want. I was met with two rude managers who told me they couldn't do anything about it. Because I was within 30 days, I had to call headquarters and they cancelled the program but were unable to cancel the gym membership. I was harassed from that point on, it was so frustrating and such a negative experience that I signed up to another gym. I wasted a lot money but I was never going to go back to that place. After I stopped going, they started calling, multiple times and left messages on my phone even after I told them to stop contacting me. They would ask me when I was coming back, if/when I was going to renew my membership or try out a new program. I was being harassed. This place just wants your money and couldn't care less about your well-being. Also, they renevated the place and the layout is terrible, super cramped and small. I like the gym I go to now, they leave me the hell alone!!!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful gym, people aren’t douchy which is always great

Negative experience: For a company that offers well-being, you should be more responsible and ensure the well-being of your neighbors. Your ventilation system produces extreme noise pollution 24/7 and prevents us from sleeping, and this has been going on for almost a year. My children are constantly tired because there isn't a night when they don't wake up due to the noise. Shame on you!

Negative experience: Nautilus YOU ARE DISTURBING US. Your new air conditioning system is running 24/7 and is too noisy. We request that you respect the evening and night hours. Negative experience: The new space is absolutely terrible. Whoever designed it should take a minute to think if interior design is really what they should be doing. Its cluttered and cramped, dark and cold, the lockers are tiny, they removed the sauna, showers have no pressure and flimsy curtains. The workout equipment is old, the staff looks depressed, this gym is an absolute mess and there aren’t enough plates. The old space had old equipment but it had charm and good airflow. Now that that’s gone, this gym is definitely the worst one in the Plateau now, especially considering the price.

Negative experience: This post is quite long, but if you are reading these reviews because you actually want to know what this gym is like, you will get the full picture. This branch recently moved, and while the location is new and renovated, the gym itself is definitely not. The administration had neglected the upkeep of the equipment in the old premises, and most of it was just moved to the new space. I was actually told before the move that they do not regularly maintain the equipment and count on members to report breakdowns and are very slow to act on repairs, if at all. The new space is smaller and the layout is so awkward and poorly planned that it makes me strongly question the competence of the "designer" or contractor, or whoever made the decisions on the placement of the equipment. Walking through the space is like navigating a maze, and the air circulation is poor, with some corners noticeably warmer. Two sets of nine TV screens mounted in front of the cardio machines with a large one in the middle broadcasting Nautilus ads. Out of the nine, one is playing Nautilus ads, two are the same channel, and two have defective audio, just static and interference. The group class schedule is pitiful, and the courses lack variety and are inconsistent and sparse. They blame the lack of classes to the lack of participation, but people stopped going because the classes are an afterthought, and lack the professionalism that a gym of this "caliber" should be offering. The group workout room is down one floor at ground level, and is a narrow space with small windows, giving it a basement feel, and the weight rack sounds like it's about to crash down with every jump. The locker rooms are still a work in progress after three months. The showers have no water pressure, there is no shelf in the stall for soap or shampoo, and the curtains have not yet been properly installed and keep tearing or falling down and are not replaced. They have only been in the new premises for a few months and the lack of upkeep that was so obvious in the old space has started to show. Can you get a workout at this gym - yes. Can you get an equally good workout at a gym that charges half the membership fees or less - emphatic yes! Nautilus is banking on an old idea of loyalty and reputation that just doesn't hold up in these competitive times. They say that their high fees are due the superior quality of their equipment and course offerings, and this is definitely not the case. They overcharge for a basic service that is lacking, and promote only the extras that bring in more money, like personal trainers and semi-private group sessions. What all of these details and complaints add up to is a total lack of attention and customer care which extends not only to this branch, but the company as a whole, as even complaints to their head office are ignored. Do yourself a big favour and take your business elsewhere!

Negative experience: Gym is cool, Stuardo is an amazing trainer but the manager of the place keept harassing me because I was wearing stringer tanktops. She said to me I was not the right client she was looking for. I changed area because it was really annoying. She was saying thats the rule but in every other Nautilus they never said a word about stringer tanktops.

Fantastic experience: Sharing my five stars experience with personal trainer David V whos professionalism and passion about his work and clients who become a 'family' during workout sessions are phenomenal. It feels right away that David has awesome personal approach and his clients can see results in just few months of training. Thanks again David for your help, passion and of course your professionalism. The Plateau location is clean and rarely crowded. The only downside is quality of lockers in changing rooms, they’re outdated. Otherwise all cool.

Fantastic experience: Great big gym with a class room. Bathroom and shower. Accessible by elevator.

Positive experience: It's not the worst, it's not the best. The showers and changing rooms could really use a refresh, and some equipment could be replaced... It's also the only place where I see people going in dressed, and in shoes, into the sauna before or after their workout to stretch. I find that it's anything but hygienic! Otherwise, the staff is friendly and available.

Positive experience: Very good gym, quality machines as well as well-done classes and a part of the staff is quite friendly, nothing to complain about in that regard. However, that is not the case in terms of the company's commercial aspect, I had to request a replacement for my membership card due to a loss and they asked me for $17.50 for a simple membership card even though I renewed my subscription a month ago! For a subscription at this price, it's a shame, there are a lot of people trying to sell us several services, but when it comes to customer goodwill, no one is there! In short, a very good gym, but no commercial spirit at all, even banks have more of it!

Negative experience: I guess they don't want new clients? $20 to try their gym for one day.

Positive experience: Overall, I give a good rating because the nautilus machines are above the other gyms. Regarding this branch in question, it was my favorite but it is starting to get too crowded, especially concerning the number of weights available. Otherwise, to be honest, it's a bit more expensive than the others, but it's worth it.
