Nautilus Plus Nuns Island

Negative experience: I am a professional swimmer and swim coach. I registered at Nautilus in Nuns’ Island because the welcoming package seemed very attractive. However, upon signing up, I discovered that if I didn’t cancel my membership within the first month, I would be required to continue paying unless I moved to another city. Unfortunately, due to my busy schedule, I was unable to make use of my membership. When I approached the front desk to cancel, the coordinator (a senior woman) informed me that I had to pay a cancellation fee. I was shocked, as this policy seemed illogical and unreasonable. The lack of transparency in their terms and the unprofessional approach of the staff were highly disappointing. I do not recommend this gym—not only are the staff rude and unprofessional, but the gym equipment is also outdated.

Fantastic experience: Proud member since 2016, Nautilus Île-des-Sœurs stands out for its excellence in many ways. The staff is always kind and attentive, creating a pleasant and motivating atmosphere. The equipment is varied, ranging from free weights to monkey bars, as well as several pulleys, thus providing a complete experience for all types of training. An ideal place to satisfy enthusiasts, regardless of their discipline.

Negative experience: I took the membership a year back while I was a student, and I had clearly asked the people at the desk who opened my file if I’d be able to cancel it if I get a job and move out of this province. They clearly told me that if I either move out of the province or the country the subscription will end right away provided the necessary proof is provided. I got a job in a different province now and I informed them that I’d like to end the membership, but now they say it cannot be done as it is an annual contract and moreover it’s just two more payments. I honestly don’t care if it’s two payments, even $60 is money for me and I wouldn’t want to waste it for no reason. Do not believe them, they flatter you with all the lies to join the membership and this is what you’ll get in return. Worst!!!

Fantastic experience: Love it here. Has all the equipment I need and very friendly gym goers. I like the fact that the dumbbells go up to 115lbs which not every gym has.

Negative experience: I knew the equipment at this gym was old , but I still decided to join since there aren’t many options on the island. But the worst part was when I tried to pause my membership for a month. They said I could only pause it if I’m traveling outside of Canada and that I need to show proof!!! I asked to talk to the manager about my situation, but she said she was too busy. I can understand that they didn't do anything against their contract , but as a member, I expected more respect and support. Honestly, this was super disappointing. I don’t feel motivated to go to a gym that doesn’t respect its members (although I have to, cause I have a contract), but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I moved to the island more than one year ago so i didn’t really have much choice. But the place is nice not too crowded since I only go in the morning weekdays. Only thing I don’t like is some people didn’t follow the rules for example didn’t take their winter dirty shoes or didn’t put the weight back after using but I guess these could happen to all the gyms so technically not gym fault

Positive experience: Advantage: directly on the island for residents of Île-des-Sœurs. So you can get there without traffic. Clean. Staff is very polite. It's small, you have to accept being close to each other. The customers are regulars. Disadvantages for me: the closing hours on weekends (5:00 PM), no hip thrust machine, the 2 leg presses and hack squat do not allow for a deep enough descent. The machines are rather old, as is the case with this brand, compared to other gyms. The price is fair. It's crowded in the evening around 5:00 PM, which is normal, but generally around 7:00 PM, it empties out.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 star, I would. I went to this gym and specifically asked for a four-month contract, but they sent me a one-year contract instead. Despite explaining that I’ve moved from the neighborhood, they continue to deduct money from my account and are now sending me collection emails. Very disappointed with the service. Double and triple check whatever you are being told there. Don’t trust

Positive experience: My friend and I just got a membership here and although everything else is great, one of the employees was very unhelpful and demotivating to my friend during her consultation. He made no effort to understand her fitness goals, did not provide additional explanations for the machines, did not give an example of a workout routine she could start, did not explain what type of diet she would need to reach her fitness goals, and made her feel very unmotivated, demoralized, and humiliated. I didn’t catch his name but I think all employees should brush up on their people skills to avoid situations like these where a client can potentially cancel their membership.

Positive experience: I though I purchased 48 tickets; paid $400+ and ended up with an annual pass where they wanted to charge me an additional $65ish dollars a month. Expensive? I bet, I am better off buying dumbells and a treadmill-MUCH less EXPENSIVE and without the BROUHAHA. SCAMMED BY A LEGITITMATE COMPANY. WILL THEY REIMBURSE AND... ISSUE RESOLVED. EASY AS 1-2-3

Negative experience: I travel a lot and have frequented hundreds of gyms throughout my life. Never have I seen such a dirty, dilapidated, poorly equipped, and soulless establishment as this Nautilus. Sell, renovate, or close, because you do not reflect the image of Nautilus at all and should be ashamed of your facilities.

Fantastic experience: I like the environment and facilities. Tinning classes are my favourite

Positive experience: Clean gym and well located. Small gym, so limited equipment. Very professional staff.

Negative experience: Rundown gym. Old equipment that hasn’t been updated in over 10 years. Lack of machines, only one set of pulleys! Also, whoever thinks that setting the temperature of a gym to 22C is psychotic. Too warm.

Positive experience: This gym is decent but requires an update on the equipment. I like the big windows that let in a lot of light while you’re working out but many things break and they take forever to repair them. Tried to use the female sauna and it appeared to be broken too.

Fantastic experience: I almost didn't come here because of the comments and I had doubts when looking at the outside of the building, but actually, it's fine and it's a very nice place. The gym gets a lot of natural light, several machines are available, and the cleanliness was okay (I didn't notice any particularly dirty machines).

Negative experience: I got my jacket stolen from the lost and found section. I got so upset and disappointed because it should be a safe place and got scaried as well to know that inside gym there is people stealing things.

Positive experience: The attendant at the entrance was super kind, he helped me with the paperwork and gave me advice. He gave me a tour of his prices and day passes. He made me feel welcomed and appreciated.

Negative experience: All reception were so rude. I will never come back there and don’t recommend to anybody.

Negative experience: I strongly advise against it. Never anything organized, very dirty, and a manager who is very unpleasant. The old one was better; in short, I regret it.

Negative experience: big gym with lots of weight lifting options, however cardio machines are quite out dated! Some peloton bikes or threads would be great. In addition my biggest issue is the very poor cleanliness, at times the place is smelly and you can see the same garbage inside the cardio cup holders for weeks and weeks! Everything in this gym seems highly catered to French speakers not so English friendly

Positive experience: Lacks a lot of maintenance. The bathroom is often out of service.

Positive experience: My partner and I are very satisfied with this gym. We go there in the early afternoon and it's very lightly populated... It's perfect! Clean, paper towels & cleaning bottles available in each area of the machines! The only downside is that there are people who don't clean the machine after use either by forgetfulness or on purpose, we no longer take chances, we clean before and after. This situation is present in all gyms and not just at Île-des-Soeurs. The trainers are very nice and competent (Audrey & Esteban).

Fantastic experience: The comments here are definitely too harsh, I almost didn't go for the trial because of the comments. Don't be fooled by the building's exterior appearance which, let's say, can look cold and dark. The gym gets a lot of natural light, impeccable cleanliness, organized, perfect reception, pressure showers, etc. Yes, it's true that some machines are not very numerous, which is probably an issue during peak hours. And a small detail, I like that the treadmills are equipped with ventilation, but it's still fine! That said, I will sign up and I recommend it!

Negative experience: the lady (maybe the owner) is unpleasant. I only go because I live near. AC is non existent, many young people who do not clean after themselves.

Negative experience: Very bad experience with this place that I strongly advise against... A place that my husband suggested to me and where I signed up to benefit from his advice and motivation... however, the management team does not agree as they told me that I was forbidden to be coached by someone else while they have 'qualified' coaches... I tried to explain to them that I had no interest in taking a coach and that I just wanted to enjoy a good gym session with my partner... but I suppose greed takes over... since they are not only the most expensive gym (without reason) but they also prevent you from training with your spouse and require you to use their coach even if you don't need it...

Otherwise, it's a nice place, good atmosphere, and the clients are normal people.... The staff is very welcoming and smiling.

Negative experience: During the pandemic the monthly fee was paid by my credit card maybe for 8 months for nothing. I contacted them several times by phone and several times by email to ask them to freeze my contract during the pandemic. But no response was received. I did not use the Gym and paid for several months. Customer service is very bad.

Negative experience: vert very very rude staffs, amazingly unsanitary facility and outdated equipment possibly made by Shakespeare and most importantly the price is one of the most expensive in Montreal for no reasons I definitely recommend people to avoid this gym.

Negative experience: For my case, I only need a decent peloton bike ... The ones that exist are in a pity state. Since I pay an annual package for the price of riding an old bike, it's really not worth it. In addition, I was planning to engage a personal trainer, but recently had an unpleasant experience with the attitude of one the staff members. Overall, if it weren't for the fact that I live near the gym, I would move to another organization

Negative experience: Big infrastructure,clean and good service but,the most important part fails. The machines are old and many times won't work, an update is necessary and mandatory. Basically, without trying to be an A-hole, they sale a name (Nautilus); not comfort when working out. I cannot give opinion regarding trainers, since I do it by myself.

Positive experience: Great gym. Friendly staff, very spacious facility and quality equipment. So far I've seen like only 1 machine out of service. Very clean too. My only issue is the closing time. It's too early and I often cannot finish my workout. If the business could prolong that it would be amazziiing!

Negative experience: The gym is good. But stay away from the programs - no one can loose 30 lbs in 3 months unless you are doing workout full time. Fun fact- after you enroll in a program then they will evaluate if you can achieve the goal.. me and one of my friend fell for it, but were no where close to the target. So be careful and do research before signing up for a paid program.

Positive experience: Sub par for Nautilus Plus, I've been to 4 locations and this one is just 'okay'. It's comparable in size to other locations and parking is free, however some of the equipment is getting kind of old. The biggest downside for that gym is that it has no humidity control whatsoever. They do have air conditioning but I was soaking wet after just a few minutes on the treadmill. Then you go to do your workout and it's even worse, I feel like I was melting in a puddle of sweat. It's just insane and they seriously need to do something about it.

Positive experience: A pretty decent place to go train. The fact that the gym is not too crowded when I go is an added benefit, along with its proximity. The only downside is the price of private sessions which is, in my opinion, way too hight for how much they pay the trainers themselfs. Lowering the prices a lot would help attract more customers.

Negative experience: Old equipment. Quite dirty most of the time. They removed one of the cable stations to put in some monkey bars that no one is using.... now there is a constant line up to the cables at the only station that is left. Lastly the equipment is all over the place and the staff don’t care putting it back. If you come first thing in the morning you end up looking for different attachments for cable rack and moving benches that has been left all over from previous day. It is also overcrowded during the day. Finally fed up and found another gym half way through my paid annual membership. Needless to say they will still charge me for half a year.... This gym really not worth considering. P.S. My review is not an opinion those are facts based on my experience attending this gym for over two years.... I could provide my opinion as well... Two weeks later no one reached out by the way... shows you how much they care... I am sure I will get a call and a letter when my membership is about to expire...

Fantastic experience: best gym I have been so far, nothing to complain except a little high price for personal trainer

Negative experience: I do not recommend. Very high prices. Lack of honesty and total transparency. We were quoted a price for my daughter under 18, then on the day she starts, we were given another price. Almost over $100 a month for a teenager. Forcing and putting us in a fait accompli situation. The person who claims to be the manager's assistant says that her two colleagues do not know the prices and got it wrong!!!!! Moreover, this establishment does not display its prices clearly. In short, to be avoided. Fortunately, they are not the only ones!!!!

Positive experience: Overall reasonable gym for the price, old equipment and pretty small though

Negative experience: This review dates from 2018 and 2020. Two years ago, I had a very bad experience there. The machines are not clean, there is nothing to clean them with (or it's too far from where you are and very little). And the music is too loud, much too loud. No help. There was a relatively older man who was training without having paid for a trainer! He was using a machine incorrectly and was surely going to injure himself. I told an employee (trainer) who outright said she wasn't going to deal with it since he hadn't paid for a trainer. In fact, I believe this place is made for much younger people than me who love this very loud American-English music... And I’m sure everyone is happy. I can’t wait for a sports center to open one day for calm people who don’t need to have shouting in their ears to get motivated! Oh yes! When I canceled my subscription, on time, but with difficulties because they didn’t want to give me the assessment they had made of my physical condition and that I had paid for. The manager or the owner or I don’t know who took offense at my professional integrity after seeing my website. Threatening me, for example, to report me because I had written that I was a trainer certified by the Commission des partenaires du travail. It was, after all, TRUE and I had proof of my qualifications and of having paid to be certified. Sometimes it really stoops very, very low in this world. Especially when you are a manager!! Shameful!

Negative experience: I've been subscribed to this gym since 2011 or 2010. I renew my subscription yearly. This year I went to renew and they told me they changed their software and now I owe them 250$ from 2011. How come this is the first time I hear about this? Maybe they want to pay off their new software. Either way, I won't pay this imaginary money nor will I register again. I've never liked this gym as it is one of the most expensive gyms and the quality is bad less than mediocre. Old and used equipment, unable to wear wifebeaters and worst of all they force you to register for classes you will never use anyway. I was registered as I was going with friends and it's just more fun. But I'd rather go elsewhere under such redicilous circumstances.

Negative experience: Doesn't take customers seriously. I had an unfortunate accident in the gym and I informed management of what happened. I made them suggestions at no cost to reduce this type of accidents and no one followed up. Type of management where they want quiet customers who pay and don't ask too many questions.

Positive experience: Less modern than several other gyms, but located in a nice part of the city. Offers two floors and a lot of windows. As a downside, some machines are old and less modern. At this price, one expects to have higher quality machines. For now, an econofitness has machines that are just as good if not better than Nautilus IdS.

Positive experience: Very large gym, although I wouldn't recommend to go at Peak times. Since its located on l'île-des-soeurs, it can get very busy at certain times. Otherwise the service is "ok"

Negative experience: Very high price for the quality of the equipment and the outdated decor. One of the pulleys came off its mechanism during training and caused an accident. No follow-up from the management after the accident. Other cardio equipment is not properly adjusted. Customer service is lacking. I am a former member and I attended this establishment for more than 8 years and there has been a deterioration in the quality of the center and the service. I do not recommend this training center.
