The Athlete Centre

Fantastic experience: I went to the Center because I woke up with my back completly blocked. The pain was getting bad and I called hoping to get a quick appointment. They found me an appointment with physiotherapist Leo Falzon only 2.5 hours after calling. I had a warm welcome from the receptionist, the appointment lasted almost an hour, the physiotherapist took the time to question me, was really professional, he massaged the painful area for a long time in different positions, explained each of his movements to me, gave me very good advice and exercises to do at home so that the pain disappeared as quickly as possible. The pain was much more bearable when I left the Center and I regained all my mobility 2 days later! I really recommend this place and Leo Falzon!

Fantastic experience: I have struggled with shoulder pain for several years now and visited several physios before with little to no results, and had given up. My wife found the athletic center and i figured ok I'll give it another shot. After my first session with Stephen Woollard he did a simple movement with my shoulder while lifting that completely removed the pain, and then set me on a program that now has me feeling so much better that I can actually do overhead exercises again. I cannot recommend this place enough. I am very grateful for their help.

Fantastic experience: While training for the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock, I crashed and sustained substantial injuries (concussion, broken clavicle and pelvis) Post surgery, I was referred to physio and subsequently therapeutic massage at the Athlete Center, and I received excellent care from Leo and Josh respectively. What I appreciated most was that the physio appointments were dedicated solely to me. In the past, at other locations, the physiotherapist bounced between myself and other patients during an appointment, and I was often waiting to be able to continue with the next exercise. Not so at the Athlete Center. Leo was fully attentive for the 45 minute session, always first debriefing how the week had gone, checking my progress and taking notes. Leo demonstrated the exercises in person, as well as provided me with emailed videos of my weekly exercises. He was always positive, encouraging and realistic with his expectations. Leo was knowledgeable and able to adapt to what I needed. The time spent in physio was efficient and productive. The owner and all the staff I met were very personable and capable. The facility is clean and welcoming, spacious and has good equipment. But it’s definitely the one-on-one personal service that will have me recommending the Athlete Center over other well-known locations in the city.

Fantastic experience: Good vibes. Everyone is super down to earth and easy to talk to, understanding and patient. I was about 5 mins early for my appointment so I enjoyed chatting with the front desk staff. Then, Marita helped with my back injury. She understood where I was coming from. There is a delicate balance between not minimizing and also not overblowing which she did nicely. She gave some practical exercises and answered my questions in a way that didn’t make me feel dumb which I appreciated a lot especially today.

Fantastic experience: I first came to the Athlete Centre through Ben and his chiro work has helped with my right shoulder pain & overall mobility. As a former athlete, I appreciate Ben's approach to not just do an adjustment but help me understand the root cause of the day-to-day pain/soreness and how to strengthen those areas. I also recently started seeing Leo to rehab my fractured ankle after 6 weeks in an air-cast. He has a great approach to physio, as we've improved my ankle's range of motion each week and continue to add core/balance/strength exercises while managing the swelling/discomfort that comes with added usage post-injury. If you come in armed with questions and a genuine curiosity you will come out with nothing but knowledge and confidence. All my issues were improved or were given a realistic and actionable pathway to improvement. Based on multiple visits, it's clear Leo is knowledgeable in a wide variety of issues, and always makes you feel comfortable. Highly reccomend!

Fantastic experience: I started seeing Leo post meniscus repair surgery 2.5 months ago. I am so happy that I found him as a therapist. He is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain everything. His approach to recovery was realistic and attainable, which I appreciated. Each visit he listened to me and adapted my program based off of how I was feeling. I feel stronger than ever and I’m now able to get back to running and enjoying life. Fantastic experience: I went to see Stephen Woollard at The Athlete Centre. I hurt my arm a while back while walking two of my chocolate labs. They had lunged on the leash harder than usual, and I felt a sharp pain. Stephen's clinic is impressive, with lots of equipment and feels very welcoming. He did a thorough assessment, having me lift some weights to figure out exactly where and when it hurt. He found the tender spot and massaged it gently, and I could feel the pain easing away. It was like he had miracle hands. Then, he used a laser treatment, which also helped a lot. Stephen didn't just treat the injury right then and there. He gave me some exercises to do with TheraBands and explained why they would help my arm get better. I really liked how he took the time to explain everything. It made me understand what was going on with my injury and how the exercises would help me heal and prevent it from happening again. His knowledge and the way he shared it were very reassuring. After doing the exercises Stephen gave me, my arm felt much better in a short time. If you're dealing with an injury, I highly recommend booking an appointment with Stephen Woollard at The Athlete Centre. His expertise and care can really help you recover faster and get back to your usual activities. Whether you work in the trades or any other demanding job, staying healthy is super important, and Stephen is the person to help you do that.

Fantastic experience: I've been working with Stephen Woollard at the Athlete Centre, for 12 one-on-one Performance Plus program sessions, rehabilitating a serious ankle injury as well as focusing on my overall strength and movement. His workouts have been excellent and well considered, designed to strengthen my ankle as well as whole body exercises with weights, bands and calisthenics. Expert oversight on posture, execution and outcome. My ankle is doing great and I'm feeling the positive benefits of the customized workouts. Thanks Stephen ! Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Leo is very thorough in his assessment and keeps YOU in mind in every and all aspects of the appointment. From scheduling, space, interaction, amount of information needed/wanted, expectations, suggestions and planning. This is all so important, specially when you are in pain.

Kavan understands the body and where your problems are coming from, and is able to find the type of problem quickly (for me the first visit). I have struggled with range of motion on one side (hip) for a long time, and with a few easy to do movements and exercises, immediately created a “night and day” difference. Kavan helps you understand what’s happening, then educates and helps you to work on it so you don’t have to be dependant on him! The staff at the center are patient and very helpful, often going above and beyond what you would expect. Thank you guys!

Fantastic experience: Dr. K. Yu is an excellent chiropractor offering two types of treatment. He is able to quickly remediate the physical problem; furthermore, he recommends specific exercises to help prevent the discomfort from reoccurring. He establishes a great rapport and listens attentively to the details of my ailment, checking his notes to assess previous injuries and treatment. Dr. Yu is thorough and attends to my needs skillfully.

Fantastic experience: I was curling in the BC Mens Provincial Championships and was experiencing some issues mid competition. Rachelle went out of her way to help me out out of the goodness of her heart, and she fixed me up at the Curling Arena! Needless to say we were able to win the whole thing and a big part of that was my body feeling significantly better - can't thank her and the Athlete Center enough!

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about the Athlete Centre as an all encompassing treatment place. I literally can get all the help I need here. As a former international athlete my body needs lots of TLC, then through my second pregnancy and post-partum the practitioners have been superb. Josh and Holly as RMTs are incredible. Kavan is first class as a chiropractor and Rachelle is incredibly detailed and knowledgeable as an AT. They all work together and they just give you such incredible service. On top of that the online booking is so easy and the admin staff are so superb to work with and see every time. I can’t help but recommend this place as a one stop shop for all your rehabilitation needs … and I mean the massages for no reason are also awesome too! Thanks to the staff for always taking care of me :)

Fantastic experience: I saw Leo, one of the physiotherapists working at this clinic, and was very happy with the care. I'm an aging athlete with many years of accumulating injuries and pushing my body. Leo was able to give me a better understanding of the injury I went to see him about and gave me excellent guidelines on how to get back to training. Very knowledgeable and very good at communicating that knowledge to others. I'm picky about who I hire to help me with my injuries and I'll be back to see Leo next time I need one.

Fantastic experience: I've been treated by Stephen for athletic therapy for over a year now and his knowledge, advice, and treatment skills are amazing! His sessions are very indepth, and he provides a variety of stretches for me to work on outside of our appts. Also excellent facilities and convenient parking.

After some treatments and keeping up with prescribed exercises I the pain was 100% alleviated. Fantastic experience: Josh is amazing. He is very good diagnostically and then even better at treating a problem. I have had shoulder and back problems for years. Regular massage by Josh has resolved these issues. I highly recommend Josh for a therapeutic treatment.

Fantastic experience: Really great chiro and massage. What’s great is the Chiro here does not do the typical chiro nonsense: where they need you pre-commit to “12” sessions to get something fixed. Each therapy session is unique to the situation, with no pressure, or product upsells. The sessions are also never rushed, and they’d rather spend a bit more time helping you, versus rushing you out for the next patient. They also help you with recommended exercise to prevent future injury, and help strengthen your body. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Super grateful for the care I received from Dr Stebbins, following my lower back injury & leg neuropathy. My pain started as severe and was limiting my ability to work. Within 4 months of seeing Ben I had returned to work full time and had I began deadlifting in the gym again. Truly grateful and in awe of how quickly I saw improvement. I really appreciated his attitude and positive outlook when I was getting discouraged and he really took the time to check in with me at each appointment and assess my progress to ensure we were moving forward on the right path. It was also important to me to find a chiro who aligns with the "motion is lotion" / "movement is medicine" framework and he definitely delivered on that. Very professional, empathetic, and thorough. Would absolutely see Ben again for future rehab needs or follow-up.

Fantastic experience: I was fortunate enough for Dr Stebbins to have looked at my back. I had chronic pain and lots of mobility issues with it since I was in my early 20s. I spent 13 years in the army and had multiple professionals look at it. After one visit with Dr Ben, he had me sorted out with movements and stretches not previously recommended. I live pain free now! His prescribed treatment is A-1!

Fantastic experience: Josh is a fantastic massage therapist! I’ve been getting massages for years and he’s one of the best I’ve had yet. Update: Still going to Josh years later and just had the best massage to date. Hands down the most thorough and knowledgeable RMT.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had the privilege of being treated my Dr, Stebbins for the last number of years. The best way I can describe his style/technique is a “new chiropractor”. He does manual adjustments, but he’s not a crack and pop quick stop. He takes time to assess your injury/complaint, introduces movement and strength training methodologies as well as more traditional options. He explains what’s happening and why he’s doing the things he’s doing. I was never a “believer” in chiropractics until seeing Dr. Stebbins. But I always walk out of our treatments feeling better than when I went in (less pain/easier movement, more educated). Now I recommend him to everyone.

Fantastic experience: In just a few sessions with Michelle I've learned an absolute ton about specific stretches to improve some flexibility issues. There are a bunch of highlights but the biggest one is a few simple shoulder stretches that quickly relieved a decade of shoulder issues and are really helping my swimming. As an older athlete I'm blown away by how little I knew about what matters for flexibility.

I find it's a great mix of exercise, hands on manipulation, and body awareness. Fantastic experience: Not only is the environment clean and inviting, the staff are professional and have transparent procedures when it comes to health and safety. No need to worry about cleanliness because the facility is spotless, organized and sanitary. However, this is not a hospital setting, there is soft music, clean benches and an environment that nurtures healing and the positive experience you're about to have. I booked with Holly for my first ever massage and I've already booked again. She was insightful, friendly, and not in a cold professional way you get at Starbucks, you can really tell there are layers and layers of knowledge about your body and ways to stay healthy in every session. 10/10 One thing I would recommend is be ready to feel relaxed beyond what you've every felt, might be slightly airy after. Also driving up to the Apex building might seem like its not the right place. But it is. It's huge. But you're in the right spot. And in the right hands.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic experience with Holly at the Athlete Centre. First of all, she was very respectful and professional. I came in with a breathing issue related to my ribs and she did such a good job that later that day I felt completely better. I’ve also had Holly for other issues ( neck pain, shoulder ) and she was extremely helpful then as well. I would highly recommend Holly the massage therapist or anyone else at the centre.
